Shelby’s Well: July 2021

Kurkum Well Site (one of two boreholes drilled by Global Concern in November of 2020).

Many have been faithful to support and inquire about our Shelby's Well project over the last few years. It has been quite an undertaking to finish it during a worldwide pandemic. Prices have changed. Supplies have run short. Logistics have been difficult. Travel has been hindered. Yet, today, we are in the last stages of this project!

Our water team in Kenya is currently putting the final touches on the plan and has begun working to secure the materials needed. Finishing this phase consists of adding the solar pump, solar panels, fencing, and water kiosk to the borehole that we drilled in November of last year. This means the water that is literally capped off at the top of the borehole pipe will finally be flowing to a community that is currently experiencing a severe drought - one that is predicted to get worse. People nearby will have a safe and reliable water source that is unaffected by drought conditions. This means life!

Upon completion of this phase, we will be finishing out the borehole we drilled in nearby Kurkum, adding similar components to make it operational. Finally, we will move back to Kargi for the last phase of this water project - piping water from Shelby's Well to Kargi town. We are currently raising funds for both the Kurkum well phase and Kargi piping phase. To donate towards either of these projects, please visit our donate page.

If you are curious about other ways that you can be involved, please reach out! We would love to hear from you!
